CENTRAL AUDITORY PROCESSING DISORDER


Central Auditory Processing Disorder(CAPD) is the inability of one’s ears and brain to coordinate appropriately. Involves difficulty in the following five areas:


1. Auditory figure-ground
2. Auditory Memory
3. Auditory Discrimination
4. Auditory Attention
5. Auditory Cohesion

Characteristics to looks for:

1.   Easily distracted
2.   Difficulty following directions
3.   Problems in the areas of speech and language, reading, writing, and spelling
4.   Disorganized
5.   Less distracted in quiet environments
6.   Often confused with ADD or ADHD
